Form & Function

Project Type

Architectural

Date

January/February 2023

Effective design is often measured by the balance between form and function. A designer's ability to establish an intriguing aesthetic, while maintaining an unobtrusive function defines the success of a project. Good design must be exciting to experience, but utilitarian and useful in its nature. And without a shared harmony between both form and function, a design of any kind risks being lost in obscurity. Project 1 asks students to restructure ordinary steel bridges to accommodate
3-dimensional movement conditions, all while managing functional dilemmas.
A series of resolutions to the Pont de Quebec Bridge follow below.
